Profanity Protected Under The Constitution?
The Supreme Court met Tuesday to determine if the laws the FCC have in place about profanity (particularly the F and S words) are restraining free speech.

I do think profanity is protected under the Constitution as it is written. But I'm up in the air on whether it should be. Not to sound cliche', but children are growing up faster and faster each generation, often too fast for their own good. Young, impressionable kids should not be subjected to profanity on TV. I think airing shows having vulgar of profane language after 10:00 for those who want to watch/listen is about as good a resolution as any to find a middle ground. Tough arguments for both sides of the issue.
Since they are allowing the language as a constitutional right, I suppose that the television stations will have to decide for themselves if they WANT to use the bad words and alienate anyone watching with children. I am guessing most of them will not.
I think the Supreme Court has more important things to deal with than profanity on TV. Television stations should be able to air the shows they want. If people dont want to watch them or want their kids to watch them they can change the channle. It should be the parents job to police what their kids watch not the television stations or the Supreme Court.
I too believe that the parents should be the ones who monitor what their children watch and not the supreme court and that profanity should be allowed but like Jill said it should be up to the TV stations on what the want to allow from the television shows that they air. As much as we want to protect our children from hearing these vulgarities we can not be with them every single minute of the day and whether people want to believe it or not they are probably hearing much worse at school from their friends.
People have the rights to speak and listen whatever they want. We can not keep our children from hearing bad language, but we can decrease this possibility. I am agree that they probably hear and use not appropriate language at school or wherever outside. However, as parents we can have control on what they watch on TV at home. This is parents' responsibility.
I think parents will be scared if their kids learn a lot of bad words on TV. Every parent want the kids get good influence. We should decrease the possibility to hear bad words.
GOD BLESS CHASE UTLEY!!!!! WORLD CHAMPIONS....WORLD FUCKING CHAMPIONS!!!!!!
