I read this article and was thinking about posting it. I think it's a great idea. My sister had something along this line happen to one of her good friends. Her friend had gone for a routine gyn exam. Her doctor had a practice of "if you don't hear from me, everything is fine." Well, it ended up that she had ovarian cancer, which ran in her family. Nobody ever called her, she never got treatment and by the time she starting having symptoms and went back to her doctor, it was too late. She passed away before she was even 30 years old and not quite a year after her "routine" exam. I think this is absolutely necessary. Everybody should have control over their own health and records. I'll be following this closely.
Isn't the test result property of the patient? I think it should be because the patient pays for the test, and he has the right to have it and go for second opinion to another physician. It is a part of a ridiculous health care system which only takes care of money. In other countries usually the results are given to the patients.
This is a great idea. My girlfriend at work just went through a series of tests because she has been ill and no one seemed to have a answer to what was going on. So after called her doctor's office several times and several weeks later, she finally got her results. If they would have just sent them directly to her, she would not have gone through so much hassel. Thankful everything was alright, but the not knowing can sometimes make things worse.
