New food label law goes into effect

Although it seems like these new food labels could be useful, I'm not sure if it is worth the hefty billion dollar price tag. When I lean towards backing this type of thing, I end up thinking about how we've lived this long without it. Our forefathers would be rolling over in their graves if they heard about things like this.

I think this is a good idea. It's a good way to steer clear of items that have been recalled. Instead of having to eliminate something just because it has been recalled, you would be able to look at the label and tell where the product came from. I think the price is hefty, but with more and more products being produced in other countries, maybe where standards are not as stringent as ours, it's good for the consumer to be able to play a bigger role in deciding where their food comes from.

While I agree with the previous comment, the price to implement this will be passed on the us consumers.

I agree with you both. Everytime someone comes up with a "great idea" we end up paying for it.

I like most of what I read in this article but one thing does bother me. It doesn't mention much about seafood but when you go to any supermarket, there is usually a display stating what part of the world all the seafood was caught in. If regular shrimp is included on these lists regarding where it is caught, I don't think breaded shrimp should be excluded just because its considered processed.

I agree with this decision for a different reason. As we have all noticed, our country is going through some difficult economic times. Now that food products will be labeled, I can be re-assured that the food I select/purchase will grown or raised in the U.S. thus re-investing money into our own economy and not someone elses. Now we have a choice

I think this is a good idea so we can buy items from our own country and our own area. I just dont like the price tag and the fact that we will pay for it.
