Firms sue Florida over law prohibiting fake caller IDs
Finally! It is nice to see this getting done somewhere. I think all states should adopt this practice. Although, I don't necessarily blame the one doing the scamming when someone gets taken, this will help prevent unnecessary fraudulent behavior to some extent.

I wasn't aware that you could change how a number appears on caller id, wow.
Very deceptive. Businesses should not be allowed to do this, it is far to deceptive.
However, I certainly understand the concerns of victims of violent crimes, shelters etc.
I also was unaware that you could even do that. Honestly I hardly even answer my phone anymore and let it go to voicemail if I do not know the number. If I hear it is someone I know I pick up.
I do agree with Kim that I believe certain companies and shelters should be looked at seperately and be allowed to continue this process to protect individuals and their families.
I am glad to see my home state taking a step in the right direction. I too hardly answer my phone anymore just due to the sheer volume of calls from telemarketers and you can't trust any of those to be who they say they are anyways. I also agree with having to change the law to allow for some type of privacy and protection for shelters and such along those lines. What I was wondering is how will these companies get caught? A person who received the call would have to report the fraudulent act but, how do we really know the numbers of the places that call us. I know I don't call a number back to see if it is actually the people that called.
Wow - I guess I am living in the stone age. I knew that you could block your number out, but I had no idea that you can change the number that appears. That's a little slimy! I'm with Tracy though, if I don't recognize the number, I just don't answer it. I do think that they should change the law to prevents those dealing with acts of domestic violence and such.
We have the right to know the truth. I do not want somebody to take advantage of someone else misleading him with a fake caller ID number. Police use other methods anyway.
